All quiet on the Powis Hall front at the mo. We have potential match-funding, though it would be good to know how much is being matched. How much do we have?
The question is: will the funding for Powis Hall be dragged into the Smithfield supermarket debate?
Anyone walking around Oswestry today, being assailed by Sainsbury’s on the one hand, huge Morrison’s adverts on the other, and topped off with a giant Tesco at Ellesmere advertising truck…would be in no doubt that Oswestry people are not short of options when it comes to supermarkets, and that doesn’t even include Stan’s!
So, it is hoped that Powis Hall funding is not made contingent on money from the Smithfield project. That would not be a good move.
After today’s MP’s report on the support for Local Markets, it is hoped that we can ALL grasp this opportunity with both hands!

I have wondered the same thing….
The council met on Wednesday night to discuss funding and a meeting with traders is to be held this coming Wednesday.
Watch this space…..
Well, having been in Morrisson’s today – I notice three things:
1. It spends the whole time trying to APPEAR to be a market, when it’s not (“Your local fishmonger” and “Market Street” signs – for goodness sake, grow up Morrisson’s)
2. It’s not a patch on a REAL Market.
3. Once the outdoor and indoor Oswestry Market get’s it’s act together, you will CLEAN UP.
Really. Supermarkets are convenient and boring. Markets can be rich, diverse, fun, great value and hugely enjoyable.
No competition.
If there were buskers in a Morrisson’s aisle, you’d never make it to the butter.
